CE Measure seeks original manuscripts on continuing education (CE) intervention findings that detail practitioner outcome results that ultimately impact patient care. Through articles on theory, applied research, and practice, CE Measure establishes an educational connection among academic, public, and private sectors interested in increasing educational outcomes awareness. Manuscripts that address outcomes methodologies, practice-based outcomes protocols, and CE conference highlights, case histories, as well as abstracts, are welcomed. CE Measure covers a variety of topics that are of interest to anyone involved in advancing disease management educational outcomes or in researching more effective ways of doing so. New manuscripts are reviewed by the Editorial Board for originality, content, relevancy, and adherence to outcomes protocols. CE Measure features an efficient submission and peer review process with an anticipated completion time of 30 to 60 business days from the date of receipt of the original manuscript. Any questions or comments generated during peer review will be forwarded to authors by e-mail. A prompt response to these questions is necessary to ensure timely publication. When revisions to the manuscript are requested by the Editorial Board, the authors must make the necessary changes prior to publication. Those changes will be reviewed by the Editorial Board to determine if the authors have sufficiently addressed their concerns. Manuscripts deemed to be inadequately revised will be rejected. The Editor has the final say as to publication.

CE Measure requires that electronic files of text accompany all new submissions. Submissions in paper form only will delay peer review and final publication. Authors are invited to submit an entire manuscript and figures as attachments via the CE Measure website at www.cemeaseure.com. Authors may also send the text and images on a CD or a 3.5-inch floppy disk to the Editorial Office. If a CD or disk is submitted, it should be accompanied by a hard-copy printout of the manuscript.

Any mailed submission materials should be sent to the Editorial Office. Please include the title of your paper and first author's name in all correspondence and send to:

Publication is conditional on receiving a completed Author Agreement and Copyright Transfer Statement which transfers to CE Measure the exclusive rights to print and distribute the work in all media forms. A Copyright Transfer form can be printed directly from the authors' section. The Author Agreement and Copyright Transfer Statement must be signed by the corresponding author and mailed to the CE Measure Editorial Office. Failure to provide a signed copy of either the Copyright Transfer or Disclosure Statement will delay publication of the manuscript.

If possible, electronic text files should be saved in Rich Text Format (RTF) to ensure preservation of symbols, Greek letters, and other special characters through e-mail and across various hardware and software platforms. Manuscripts should be divided into the following key sections or other related and appropriate sections, in this order, separated only by a blank line:

  • 1. Title
  • 2. Authors (listed as First, Middle, Last Name) by order of contribution to the paper
  • 3. Institutions (matched by superscript numbers to appropriate authors)
  • 4. Correspondence address, phone, fax, and e-mail address
  • 5. Abstract (abstracts must be in structured form, comprising four paragraphs labeled "Background," "Method," "Results," and "Conclusion")
  • 6. Introduction
  • 7. Materials and Methods
  • 8. Results
  • 9. Discussion
  • 10. References (numbered and placed numerically by order of citation in text)
  • 11. Figure Legends
  • 12. Tables

Case reports may substitute a section called "Case Report" for the Materials/Methods and Results sections. The format for Editorials and Letters to the Editor is unstructured.

Original articles should not exceed 4000 words, including title, abstract, text, figure legends, and references. The combined total of illustrations and tables should not exceed 7, and references should be limited to relevant and instructive sources. Authors should not cite their own previous work without a pressing need to do so.

Case reports are limited to a total of 1600 words including title, abstract, text, figure legends, and references. Editorials are limited to 500 words including any references.

Correspondence, such as Letters to the Editor and Invited Reviews, are limited to 1600 words including references.

Exceptions to the word and figure limits will be made when deemed appropriate by the Editor. The official language is English. Non-English manuscripts will be returned to the author. To facilitate submission, several guidelines should be followed:

  • 1. Do not separate sections onto individual pages. Separate sections by only a blank line or two.
  • 2. Do not capitalize or use bold-face type in an attempt to create emphasis.
  • 3. Use Symbol font when keying in Greek letters, mathematical symbols, or other special characters.
  • 4. Avoid fancy fonts, sizes, and special kerning or leading in the text.
  • 5. Do not attempt to make the document "photo-ready" or create any special formatting, pagination, or page layout. The manuscript will be formatted according to journal style.
  • 6. Prepare the manuscript in Microsoft Word and save in Rich Text Format (RTF).

Figures, photographs, and other artwork can be submitted on a 3.5-inch floppy disk or a CD. It is important that images be saved at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi). Images with a resolution of less than 300 dpi cannot be guaranteed to be high quality in print. Figures can be submitted as TIFF, JPEG, Word, or Power Point files. Authors are encouraged to include relevant and instructive photographs. In no circumstances should a patient's name appear on any image, and if a photograph includes an identifiable individual, that person's permission must be given.

Images submitted as glossy prints or artwork are acceptable. A label on the back of each image should indicate the lead author's name, the figure number, and an arrow pointing to the top of the figure. Only one copy of each figure is needed. Color images are welcome; however, the cost of printing in color is such that a portion of the cost is borne by the author. The cost of printing in color is US $663.00 per image.

Tables should be submitted electronically as Word files, either as e-mail attachments or on a disk or CD. A print-out of the table is required in order to ensure faithful representation of data. Tables should not be submitted as images or Power Point slides.

References should be compiled in the order of their first appearance in the manuscript. Authors should be listed by last name followed by their first and middle initials. All subsequent authors are separated by commas. Six or fewer authors should all be listed. If there are more than six authors, three should be listed, followed by the abbreviation et al. Only the first letter of each sentence in the title should be capitalized. Individual references should be constructed in the following order: (1) authors; (2) title; (3) journal; (4) volume; (5) year of publication; (6) issue; (7) page numbers. For example: Watson, J, Kilgore MA, Barney LL, Potts J-M L. Current debates in the world of continuing education. CE Meas. 2006;1:771-774.

First citations of references in the manuscript text should be in numerical order, written in brackets, eg, [3], [4-8], [12,15]; reference citations are placed within the final punctuation of a sentence.

The corresponding author will receive via e-mail a proof in PDF format of the typeset manuscript following production. The author is requested to promptly review the proof and reply according to included instructions. Delay at the proof stage will have considerable effect on the publication of the manuscript. With the proof, the author will receive an offprint order form. To be obtained at the quoted prices, offprints must be ordered and payment received before the manuscript is published. After publication, reprints can be ordered at a higher cost to the author.
